Thyroid and Radioactive I^(131)

Abstract
1. 6-hour and 24-hour 113, uptake studies ware done on 150 healthy Koreans with euthyroid, 373 patients with various thyroid diseases, and 25 patients with various conditions which would influence I131 uptake.
2. A careful clinical evaluation was done on all patients. BMR and cholesterol also were examined on those 73 patients with thyroid diseases.
3. On 80% of 150 healthy Koreans, 6 hour I¢¥31 uptake ranged from 10.9% to 3-8.0%, and 24 hour 1131 uptake ranged from 19.6% to 48.1%.
4. No correlation between 1131 uptake and sex or ages was found.
5. Discussed about the problem, regarding tracer dose, distance between the thyroid and the detector; and the phantom, for accurate uptake studies with less technical error.
6. Studied on various conditions which would disturb accurate uptake studies-intake of Lugol¢¥s, propylthiouracil, thyroid, PAS INH:
pregnancy, large simple goitre, congestive failure.
7. It was found that 6 hour uptake was more valuable than 24. hour for the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism, and-24 :hour :uptake was more valuable than 6 hour for the the diagnosis of myxedema.
8. An evaluation was made -on the diagnostic value of 1131 uptake, BMR and cholesterol on 73 patients with thyroid diseases. 1131 uptake seemed to be superior to other tests for the diagnosis of thyroid diseases.
9. 9 patients with Graves¢¥ disease were treated with 1731 and 8 patients showed successful the rapeutic result with initial single dose of 1131.
10. Discussed about selection of patients for 1131 treatment and therapeutic dose.
